Is it a boy or girl?

Remember the good ole days when the gender of a baby was not known or announced until the actual birth took place? And, nurseries were decorated in “neutral” colors that were not gender specific, such as green or yellow? With the technology now available, ultrasounds are a part of routine obstetric care. But even with this advance in technology there still seem to be surprises.

As most of you know, our oldest son and wife, Jeremy and Holly, are expecting our first grandchild in November. Their regular doctor was on vacation in July so they saw another doctor in the same practice. As a result of the ultrasound done at that appointment, they were told they were having a girl. So, Holly and her Mom got busy shopping and decorating and fixed up a darling nursery for a little girl. Jeremy brought tears to my eyes when he told me they were naming her “Mya Kathryn”, but I quickly recovered my sense of humor and told him he’d better make sure he spelled it right if they were naming her after me. Well, their regular doctor was back from vacation and did another ultrasound yesterday and has confirmed that they are definitely having a boy!! I guess he was being shy last month! They are happy the baby is healthy and growing, but they are making a big adjustment right now. Jeremy is thrilled they are having a boy and Holly has to turn the nursery into a boy’s room - not to mention picking a new name.
